    Location & Tips For Travelers
Location - The city can be divided in four different parts. First, there is the centre; the 1st district. Around the 1st district, you will find the famous Ringstrasse (built by Emperor Franz Joseph I instead of medieval city walls). Between the Ring and the Gürtel (belt), lie districts number 3 to 9, whilst the first and the second districts are separated by a small river, the Donaukanal. Beyond the Gürtel, south, west and north of the 1st district, you will find districts 10 to 20 and, last but not least, there are the two districts on the opposite bank of the river Danube, the Viennese call them Transdanubien.
Vienna weather and climate - Vienna has a moderate continental climate: colder winters and warm summers, without excessive rainfall. It rains or snows, on average, no more than nine and not less than seven days a month. On average, 2,000 hours of sunshine are registered annually, and it can get quite hot at times during the summer. The best time to travel is spring, the beginning of summer and autumn.
What to wear - Business attire consists of suits for both men and women. Outside business hours, Austrians are generally casual dressers, although a jacket and tie is usually worn to exclusive restaurants and smart clothing is definitely the norm for a night out to the theatre or opera.
Local customs -People should be addressed by their title, along with a handshake. It is usual to take a small gift if you are invited to a colleague's house, such as a bottle of wine or box of chocolates.
Tipping - It is customary to offer a tip of around 10 to 15 percent to taxi drivers and attendants at theatres and cloakrooms. Restaurant bills usually include a service charge but a little extra should be given in addition. Porters and bellboys expect around 10 ATS.
