Fort
Canning Park
|
|
Known previously as Central Park, this 19-ha
hill was the residence of Sir Stamford Raffles who in 1819,
established his government house on this hill. Visitors to Fort
Canning Park can find a number of items reflecting the past
glory of this place. Keramat Iskandar Shah, venerated by Muslims
and believed to be the ancient tomb of the last Malay King of
Singapore, stands at the foot of the hill. These relics may
be more than 500 years old. Remains of the fort built by the
British East India Company such as the Fort Gate and the Gothic
Archway have been preserved for the visitors. Fort Canning's
military past includes monuments such as the 19th century Fort
Gate and the underground operations rooms (bunkers) of the Far
East Command Centre built in between the World Wars.

around the Zoo a truly pleasant experience. The Singapore Zoo
is a zoo with one of the most beautiful settings in the world.
It is situated on a promontory surrounded by the tranquil waters
