Kyongbukkung Palace

A pavilion in the grounds of the Kyongbuk-kung Palace, Seoul, South Korea. The former seat of the Yi dynasty rulers the palace grounds are landscaped lotus ponds bridges and several pavilions; the Korean alphabet hangul was invented in one of them by King Sejong in 1443. The palace remained the royal residence around 200 years.

The War Memorial of Korea illustrates the turbulent times of Korea throughout its 5,000 years of history. Located on the old site of Army Headquarter, the War Memorial of Korea accommodates four aboveground floors and two underground floors in the main building, which stands on an area of about 20,000 square meters.

Hwagye-sa Temple

Hwagye, "Flower Stream Temple" is on Samgag-san Mountain. It was built in 1552 by Master Sinwol during the reign of King Chung-jong (r. 1506-1544) the 11th king of the Choson Dynasty, destroyed in 1618, during the reign of King Kwanghaegun (r. 1608-1623) and then rebuilt the following year by Master Dowol. Beautifully carved by Master Nawong in the late Koryo Dynasty, the figures were brought to Hwagye-sa in 1877 by Queen Mother Chodaebe. After that the temple served the royal family.
