    Location & Tips For Travelers
Location - Seoul is mega-modern and appealingly ancient. Partially destroyed by Japanese and Manchu invasions in the 16th and 17th centuries, and almost totally flattened in the Korean War, most of the city has been rebuilt since the 1950s. Peeking out from among the 12-lane freeways, overshadowed by high-rises, Seoul still retains a hidden history of centuries-old temples, palaces, pagodas and pleasure gardens.
Seoul weather and climate - Seoul is beautiful at all times of the year - your visit depends on your tastes. Autumn (September-November) is the most popular time, with fine weather and amazingly colourful forests. Winter - if you can stand the cold is also magnificent. Weather Forecast for Seoul Temperatures in Seoul vary greatly between the summer and the winter.
Visiting manners - Koreans traditionally sit, eat, and sleep on the floor, so shoes are always removed when entering a Korean home. Bare feet can be offensive to old people, so it is best to wear socks or stockings when visiting families.
Hospitality - There is no such thing as "going Dutch" among Koreans. The visitor should be prepared to be either host or guest.
Tipping - Tipping is not common in Korea. A service charge is taken by tourist hotels, it is included in the hotel charges. Taxi drivers should not be tipped; however, the visitor may offer a tip to those who provide service above and beyond that expected.
Transportation - For getting to the city there are taxis, a fast subway service and several bus services including the KAL Limousine Bus and the frequent City Express and Airport Express. Travel time between the airport and downtown should take approximately fifty or sixty minutes by road, but at peak times it may be preferable to use the subway to avoid traffic delays.
