Seattle
Center
|
|
Reflects the heartbeat of a great city.
We are one of the nation's most extraordinary urban parks
and entertainment centers, with over 10 million visitors
a year. Once the site of Native American celebrations, Seattle
Center continues to be a social and cultural gathering place
for people around the world. The Space Needle stands sentry
over the Center's 74 acres of fountains, gardens, thespians,
face painters, opera stars, jugglers, ballerinas, athletes,
musicians and international festivals. Seattle Center is
vibrant and growing. Since 1991, over $350 million has been
invested in new and improved facilities.

The Space Needle was
completed in December 1961 for a mere $4.5 million and officially
opened four months later on the first day of the World's Fair,
April 21, 1962. The Space Needle is the recognized symbol
of Seattle. The tower stands 605 feet (184 meters) tall and
boasts fabulous views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, the Cascade
and Olympic mountain ranges and, of course, the beautiful
city of Seattle. |
