| Location - San Francisco
is a relatively small city. About 750,000 residents live
on a 46.6-square-mi tip of land between San Francisco Bay
and the Pacific Ocean. San Franciscans cherish the city's
colorful past; many older buildings have been spared from
demolition and nostalgically converted into modern offices
and shops. |
| Tipping - Throughout America
tipping is more or less compulsory. In restaurants waiters
expect around 10 to 20 percent, as do taxi drivers and hairdressers,
while porters and bellboys anticipate around oneUS dollar
or two US dollars per piece of luggage. |
| Transportation - San Francisco
International Airport is on the western edge of the bay,
14 miles (22km) south of the city center. The simplest way
to get to the city is by shuttle vans, the Airporter bus,
taxis or rental cars. There are also bus-BART combinations,
which are useful if you're heading to the East Bay. Oakland
International Airport is 8 miles (13km) south of downtown
Oakland. Shuttle buses run between the airport and the Oakland
Coliseum BART station, as well as into town. |
