Midtown West Broadway at 42d St. New

Broadway became synonymous with the theater as downtown theaters
moved into the neighborhood, and the area became the center for
the American popular-music industry."Crossroads of the World"
became an even more important mass-media center. |

Completed in 1886, the statue welcomed incoming ships and came
to symbolize American immigration after Emma Lazarus's poem,
"The New Colossus," was inscribed on a bronze tablet. Ferries
for Liberty Island leave from Battery Park, where tickets are
sold at Castle Clinton.
Be prepared for a long wait - and a steep climb - if you insist
on reaching the statue's crown.
