Location & Tips For Travelers
Location - To be found deep in the heart of the eastern United States, Nashville is situated between the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Lakes, around the Cumberland River in northern central Tennessee. World famous for its connections of Country and Western music, Nashville is a busy and compact city full of office buildings and shopping areas. The state capital of Tennessee, Nashville has recently been revamped by an intensive renovation of some of its commercial and historic buildings; an area of town that is now a popular stop for visitors called 'The District'.
Nashville weather and climate - Nashville's climate is pleasantly mild with light snowfalls in the winter. The average summer temperature is 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) and the winter average is 46 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius).
Getting around Nashville - The downtown Nashville area is quite small and many of the tourist attractions and business areas are easily managed on foot. In addition, Nashville's public transport network is an inexpensive, reliable and efficient way of getting around the city.

When to visit - Close to the I-65, I-44, I-24 and I-40, the 117-acre Tennessee State Fairground hosts various events throughout the year, including the Tennessee State Fair and the International Country Music Fan Fair. The State Fair is held on the first Friday after Labour Day (early September), for a week, from 10:00 am until midnight each day. Each June, the International Country Music Fan Fair attracts more than 20,000 visitors who celebrate a week-long festival of the 'Best of Country Music' with more than 200 artists participating and over 30 hours of live entertainment.

What to wear - In Nashville, casual dress is usual for everyday wear and is becoming more popular during business hours. Many businesses who normally expect formal attire have ‘dress-down Friday' when employees can wear casual clothes to work, although management do not always take part. Very few restaurants require a jacket and tie.
Tipping - The standard is 15% to 20 % in restaurants. Usually city residents leave tips depending on where they eat. For other places, $1 for the bartender per round, $1 to hotel porters
