Famous, of course, for
its gambling and entertainment culture, Las Vegas is one of
the most visited cities in the world and that brings with it
big business. In addition to the bright lights and neon excitement
of the Strip, the surrounding Vegas area boasts some of the
most beautifully rugged scenery in the United States. |

| Lake Mead National Recreation Area
(NRA) offers a wealth of things to do and places to go year-round.
Its huge lakes cater to boaters, swimmers, sunbathers, and fishermen
while its desert rewards hikers, wildlife photographers, and
roadside sightseers. Three of America's four desert ecosystems--the
Mojave, the Great Basin, and the Sonoran Deserts--meet in Lake
Mead NRA. As a result, this seemingly barren area contains a
surprising variety of plants and animals, some of which may
be found nowhere else in the world. |

Red
Rock Canyon
|
| The area is located approximately
23 miles southwest (and a lifetime or two away) of Las Vegas,
just inside the entrance to the majestic Red Rock Canyon National
Conservation Park. The Red Rock Canyon area is, arguably, the
most beautiful area in Nevada--perhaps the southwest. Whether
you are a rock climber, a hiker, a rock hound, or just appreciate
the beauty of wild horses, bighorn sheep, and wild burros roaming
free, this part of Nevada is just for you. |

The Tonopah Historic Mining Park is located
on the site of the original mining claim which started the
rush to Tonopah, making it Queen of the Silver Camps. Belle
and Jim Butler's strike in the year 1900 brought the United
States into the 20th century and many mining and processing
techniques developed there are still in use today. The park,
encompasses portions of four of the major mining companies
and covers over 100 acres. It preserves this rich history
and brings it to life with equipment, exhibits, and a self-guided
tour. The tour wanders throughout the property. All buildings
on the property are open for our visitors to enjoy and feel
how it was to be working in a turn of the century mining environment.
Now that the mining park is open on a permanent basis with
a director/curator on staff, the grounds are constantly changing.
