Location & Tips For Travelers
|
| Location - London is
the keystone of England, and to most English speakers
it is, in a way, home. That is not to say that London
is exclusively for the English speaker, for people the
world over who are fortunate enough to be able to travel
there, it is an popular destination. |
| London weather and climate
- London is a year-round tourist centre, with few of its
attractions closing or significantly reducing their opening
hours in winter. Your best chance of good weather is,
of course, at the height of summer in July and August,
but there's certainly no guarantee of sun even in those
months and that is when you can expect the biggest crowds
and highest prices.Weather Forecast for London British
weather is rarely extreme. |
| Local Customs - London
is a city overflowing with rich traditions that make it
instantly recognisable from many aspects. In East London
residents dress as 'pearly kings and queens wearing costumes
decorated with buttons to celebrate being born within
the sound of the bells at Bow Church. |
| What to wear - For business
meetings, both men and women wear suits. Socially, the
British tend to have an informal yet presentable dress
code. It is, however, advisable for men to bring a jacket
and tie for dining out at exclusive restaurants where
more formal dress may be required. |
| Tipping - Many restaurants
and large hotels (particularly those belonging to chains)
will automatically add a 10% - 15% service charge to your
bill, so always check in advance before you hand out any
extra money. |
| Transportation - Train
services from the rest of England, Scotland and Wales
are frequent and most British communities have or are
within relatively short distance to a train station. With
the advent of the Channel Tunnel there is direct train
service from European cities to London. London has many
main line stations, each serving a different part of the
country. |
