Location & Tips For Travelers
|
| Location - Los Angeles,
California, on the southern west coast of the United States
is the city responsible for marketing the American Dream
and presenting it to the world. The Los Angeles coastline
stretches 122km (76 miles) from Malibu down to Long Beach,
while inland the city is situated in a vast settlement
cornered by the Santa Monica and San Gabriel mountains.
Downtown LA lies 26 kilometers (16 miles) inland from
the coast and is, next to New York City, America's biggest
city. |
| When to Visit - Los Angeles
plays host to a wide range of festivals and celebrations
besides its most famous; the annual Academy Awards in
March. The lavish Gay Pride Week Parade held each June
on Santa Monica Boulevard is followed by the Summer Pops
Festival at the Hollywood Bowl with a varied repertoire
of performances throughout the summer.

| Los Angeles Dress Code -
Since the weather conditions change so quickly - an
hour's drive from Los Angeles takes you from the warmth
of the city into the mountains - dress should be chosen
with this in mind. While standard business clothing, a
light suit and tie, is usually adhered to, it is worth
remembering that the Californian lifestyle encourages
casual dressing. Certain restaurants will require a jacket
and tie to be worn.
|
| Tipping - The standard
is 15% to 20 % in restaurants. Usually city residents
leave tips depending on where they eat. For other places,
$1 for the bartender per round, $1 to hotel porters
