Victoria
Park
|
|
Among the various parks in the territories, Victoria
Park is the most popular one. In the morning, early risers gather
there to jog and exercise. You can also see groups of people practising
the slow motion tai chi as seen in Chinese Kung Fu movies. There
are other facilities such as tennis courts and swimming pools
open to the public for a small fee. On special occasion such as
the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year, the park will become
the celebration venue and thousands of people will go and celebrate
the festivals with their family and friends.

|
|
| Hong Kong Park is not simply a park, it
features an aviary, greenhouse, fountain plaza, lily ponds, playgrounds,
artificial waterfall, viewing tower, visual arts centre, museum,
restaurant, indoor games hall and even a marriage registry. Some
people said it looks anything but natural. Still I think it looks
beautiful in its odd way, with one side of high rise buildings and
mountain greenery on the others. The aviary houses over 150 species
of birds and visitors will be walking on a suspended wooden bridge
around 10m above the ground and look at the lovely birds from an
eye-level. When you enter this world of birds, it just feels like
walking into a tropical rainforest.

Address: 1 Expo Drive Wanchai Hong
Kong, China
Tel: 852-2582-8888
One of the most important exhibition and convention venues in Hong
Kong, the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre was the site
of the 1997 handover ceremony. The new wing of the centre is a bird-like
shape design which gives the impression that the building is ready
for flight. Its harbour-facing glass curtain wall is the largest
in the world and the promenade surrounding the new wing offers impeccable
views over to both Central and Tsimshatsui. Even you are not coming
for a convention, you should also pay a visit in the evening and
enjoy the beautiful view.

Address: 10 Tin Hau Temple Road
Causeway Bay Hong Kong, China
This Tin Hau Temple was probably built in the early 18th century
by the Tai family in honour of the goddess of the sea. According
to legends, the Tai family was Hakka from Guangdong who used to
go to Causeway Bay to gather grass and one day some members of the
family found a statue of Tin Hau in the rocks near the shore (before
land reclamation, the Tin Hau Temple stood on the waterfront). They
first made a shelter for the statue and later the shrine became
popular with the boat people and a proper temple was constructed
from the donations of the fishing people. The temple is still largely
in its original form although subsequent renovations have been carried
out. |
