Phoenix
Gold Mine
|
Address: Trail Creek Road Denver,
CO 80452
Tel: 303-567-0422
The true beauty about taking a tour of the Phoenix Gold Mine is
that it is an actual working mine. There are no displays of mannequins
dressed in mining garb. Nor are there unknowledgeable tour guides
whose lone credential is a flashlight. Everything about the mine
is authentic.
The owner himself, Al Mosch, leads many of the tours through this
mine, which is just thirty minutes from Denver. You will see firsthand
the toil involved mining gold, and other five-star minerals, from
the mountains. After the tour actual miners instruct you on how
to pan for gold out of an adjacent stream. |

There is always something worthwhile here, with a constant churn
every few months of new featured exhibits. For a time they may feature
impressionist artists in general, or one artist in particular as
they did with Toulouse-Lautrec. For information on current events,
check out their web page. This museum brags (and rightfully so) about
housing the largest art collection between Kansas City and the West
Coast. As with all great museums, this one houses floor after floor
of it?s own collections. Come here to view an extensive collection
of Native American art, Spanish Colonial art, and much more. On
Wednesday nights, check out the their concert series "Twilight
Art Beat."

A relic of Denver's "City Beautiful" period, the 155-acre
park is home to two formal gardens. One is a replica of George Washington's
gardens at Mount Vernon. The park is usually full of the active crowd
enjoying walking, jogging, or bicycling on the scenic trails spanning
the park. Fishing on the park's two lakes is also a popular morning
activity. A green for lawn bowling or croquet is available. During
the summer, volleyball games take over the south side of the park.
A recreation center with an indoor pool is also on the grounds, along
with a multitude of playgrounds. |
